Nestled in the heart of Charleston at 32B N Market St, Church and Union Charleston offers a truly distinctive dining experience. This restaurant is housed in a historic church, beautifully blending the old-world charm with contemporary culinary excellence. The original stained glass windows and the unique decor—including the intriguing inscription of *The Art of War* on the ceiling—create an atmosphere that is both inviting and inspiring.
As I stepped into this vibrant space, I was greeted by an energetic bar scene and the warm buzz of laughter and conversation. The design strikes a perfect balance between sophistication and comfort, making it an ideal spot for everything from a casual dinner with friends to a more intimate celebration.
The menu, while concise, features an array of high-quality options that cater to diverse palates. Guests rave about the perfectly cooked steaks and flavorful ravioli, all prepared with care. One patron noted that the culinary staff pays meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that each dish arrives not just on time but with remarkable flavor. The sweet yet savory finish of the sauces complements the dishes without overpowering them, creating a harmonious dining experience.
But it's not just the food that shines here; the service is noted for its excellence. Multiple reviews highlight the attentiveness of the staff, from the warm greetings upon arrival to the personal touch of managers checking in during busier services. One particularly touching story involved the chef personally thanking a concerned customer for their wait, showcasing the dedication to customer satisfaction that the team embodies.
Whether it’s the buzz of the bar area, the exquisite culinary offerings, or the stunning ambiance of a church transformed, Church and Union Charleston promises a memorable night out. Reservations are highly recommended, as this treasure in Charleston is a must-visit for both locals and tourists. Trust me, you won't want to miss the delectable fried chicken or the unforgettable dessert topped with honeycomb—each bite is a moment to savor!

Service was absolutely top notch. We had a super long wait for our food (about 45 minutes) due to a very large corporate event on a Saturday night but we were checked on by two managers and the chef even came out to thank us for our patience. The food was excellent and perfectly cooked when it did finally arrive and we really enjoyed ourselves.
Very nice place right by the old market area. An old church turned into an upscale (but not overly fancy) place for a nice night out. The bar area is fun (a bit loud, but not bad) and an excellent groups of bartenders. The dinner menu is small but full of high quality items. The steaks (and the sauce!) are very good. The ravioli was very good. The pasta cooked perfectly. Maybe a little too much cheese on the inside. Sauce was a tad sweet. But very good. Service was excellent. Our waiter (“Sam”) was very pleasant and on point with drinks and quick attention to detail. Overall, a great restaurant for an upper casual night out in Charleston.
Great experience! Food was delicious and served quickly. Really unique looking inside, like a church since it used to be a church. Bailey was a great server.
Wow! We got so lucky there were two seats available at the bar at this amazing restaurant! Super upbeat atmosphere and DELICIOUS food! The whole book of Art of War is written on the ceiling - lots of creativity and thoughts and meaning was put into development of this amazing restaurant - and it TRULY shows! Fried chicken was YUM! Do NOT skip dessert!!! The honey comb on top of the cake was so good... that I still remember the taste! Recommend to make a reservation in advance because it’s a MUST dine in Charleston!
This is such a unique experience. It is a 115-year-old church with the original stained glass. The Art of War is handwritten on the ceiling in chalk. A stunning bar. The staff were excellent. The food is incredible and well-priced. This is a must-do in Charleston SC.
This was our first trip to Charleston and this place was recommended over and over again. So for our last night, we decided to try it. I’m so glad we did because WOW! the food, the atmosphere, and service from Emily V. was absolutely amazing!! Emily made this experience incredible and was so personable and attentive. She provided great recommendations for food and drinks, and told us the great history of this place. Emily and her coworkers truly embodied the company motto “there is only we”. We will definitely be back and be asking for her!!
My favorite dinner I've had in Charleston. Excellent atmosphere and great food. Prices are higher, but well worth it for the entire experience. Plan ahead, as reservations can be hard to come by short notice.
Everything was delicious. The ravioli with the chicken was a nice blend. The meatballs where a nice blend of flavors. The burger is what I received and had a good blend of spices, the fries where a smidge salty for my tastes but good still. The meatloaf was also good had a smidge of a sweetness to it. I'd get all of them.
